Republic Cement holds sports clinic with UAAP Volleyball MVP, Former PBA player

In the spirit of bringing kids into sports to learn valuable life lessons and gain access to top-class training, the Republic Cement Teresa Plant held a special sports clinic for 60 kids from Barangay Dulumbayan, Teresa. The sports clinic focused both on volleyball and basketball.

University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Most Valuable Player and Athlete of the Year volleyball star Cherry “Sisi” Rondina from the University of Santo Tomas and 6-foot-4 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Kelvin West Gregorio led the fun and exciting training sessions for the kids.

Rondina and Gregorio learned their respective sports through theoretical and practical drills. During the training, the pair also shared lessons on teamwork, respect, humility, effort, and ambition espoused by the two sports disciplines.

“Masaya kami na mahuhusay at kilalang mga atleta ang nagtuturo ngayon sa aming mga kabataan. Sisiguruhin namin na lalo pa silang maengganyo sa sports at maging mahuhusay na mga manlalaro,” said Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman Jenzen San Juan.

(“We are happy that skilled and known athletes came to teach our children for this sports clinic. We hope that because of this, they will be even more encouraged to pursue their respective sports and become better athletes.”)

Most of the trainees are students from elementary schools in Teresa who compete in municipal and provincial sports events.

“Through this special opportunity, we hope to nourish the ambitions of these kids in sports. We hope to see them become champions proudly produced by our partner communities,” shared Engr. Rolando Ong, Plant Manager of Republic Cement Teresa.
